Film photography, often thought to be obsolete, is undergoing a revival, particularly among young people. In addition, the hashtag #filmisnotdead has become a social media craze.

When Kodak, the world's largest manufacturer of photographic film, declared bankruptcy in 2012, it appeared that analog photography was doomed.
Until then, the American firm had dominated the world of photography for more than a century, much like Google, Facebook, and Amazon do now.
Nevertheless, most people already had a high-resolution camera in their pocket with which they could effortlessly capture images and videos with high-quality, and analog photography swiftly became obsolete.

Jason Kummerfeldt and his YouTube channel 'grainydays,' where hundreds of thousands of people watch his videos, the 29-year-old US photographer talks about his love of analog photography with a lot of dry humor. 'Before I started using photographic films, I had no interest in photography. But I've been hooked ever since, especially on that unique aesthetic' Kummerfeldt explains.
On YouTube, Reddit, and Instagram, a big community with millions of followers has emerged in just a few years. On the latter, the hashtag #filmisnotdead has more than 20 million photos.
'Getting to know analog photography requires a lot of social media', Kummerfeldt explains. He argues that Instagram in particular helps people gain their bearings in analog photography and discover inspiration.
